Lawn Hill Pastoral Queensland

LHRPHC Our Properties – Lawn Hill and Riversleigh Pastoral Holding Company

Due to Lawn Hill’s natural ability to carry cattle it was not until the 1960s that development work was undertaken on a larger scale by the Mackay family, to increase carrying capacity. Lawn Hill was owned by the flamboyant Brazilian Sabastian Maia in the early 1970s, until the early 1990s when the Century zinc deposit was discovered, it was then sold to CRA Exploration. Today it is jointly owned by Zinifex, the operators of the Century Mine and the Waanyi Aboriginal people. This venture was negotiated between both parties and is part of the GCA. Lawn Hill and Riversleigh properties are Traditional Waanyi country.
