Brisbane City

I arrived in Brisbane on the Train to Roma Station. I walked down the main street looking for The Mercure Inn where I was booked for three nights whilst attending a Seminar. It was in Quay Street just below the bridge and two blocks from the Station and two blocks from the Casino and Ferry Jetty. Excellent location

The first afternoon I walked across the Bridge to Southbank. This photo was taken from the top of the Ferris Wheel, which is great way of seeing Brisbane as the wheel easily turns five times with a running commentary of what there is to be viewed. It was an amazing experience and one that you should also experience.

The first thing you see as you cross the bridge is the Historical Arch, which was locked when we tried to climb to it, and which is also not illuminated at night. The arch is part of the original bridge

Right opposite is the Southbank Cultural Centre where Romeo and Juliet is currently showing.

We walked through the Bouganvilla covered archway which is designed to represent the inside of a whale.

This led past the Oriental Tower and the Bamboo garden but it was evening and the light was fading. I shall walk the garden another time. Just past was the Southban Beach.. a total amazement. The beach is man-made with sands and many water features including a beautiful tropical pool with islands children played in. It is very beautiful

Even though it was evening there were many people still there enjoying the water and the sand. It was amazing seeing a beach complete with lifeguards in the heart of the city

There are many bars and restaurants from the Surf Club to 5 star dining to Crepes and pancakes, which we had.

It was dark now and we wandered back through the open air Night market with mostly jewellery and some ethic type clothes. A magician showed us tricks with 3 cups and a furry ball, and the Newsagent was open with a wonderful display of crystals and art decor for sale. The shops were full of people enjoying the pleasant evening after the rains, and there was a feeling of celebration and happiness.

Buskers played music and there were many evening activities opening up and people were pouring in on the Water ferry from across the river.
