This was a fascinating trip back in time with a huge display of memorabilia donated and collected by George who also demonstrated the Autoharp for us.
This Building, located at 87 Alfred Street and situated next to the Murweh Shire Council Office, is the former premises of the Queensland National Bank which established a branch in Charleville on the 30th day of July 1881. It was purchased by the Charleville and District Historical Society Inc. in 1973. It is the oldest building still on its original site in Alfred Street.
In the spacious grounds and park area can be seen
- the former Charge Room of the local Police Station
- the machinery shed displaying horse drawn vehicles including a Cobb & Cocoach, ; old engines; carts and farming equipment.
- the original coach house is to be restored.
- a large majestic Coolabah tree, under which billy tea and damper is often served, graces the rear of the property
The former Pantry now houses the bottle display and Aboriginal artifacts. The front entrance houses a collection of books and souvenirs for sale.
