Curtis Island offers stunning unspoilt beaches, intimate north-facing bays, sparkling ocean, the Great Barrier Reef, wilderness, wetlands as well as an outback-style cattle station. It even has its own airstrip. It is this combination of these diverse attributes and natural beauty which make Turtle Street absolutely unique in Australia and perhaps even the world. As it is situated under the Tropic of Capricorn, the climate is far less humid in summer than further north and it escapes the chill of south-east Queensland in the winter.

……………………………...I have no idea where the Curtis Island that Destinations is speaking about is, but what I found was a small,  little island with a causeway for the ferry, one shop and one accommodation place called Capricornia, and 2 small beach areas on either side, one with sand and the other with rocks, a sprinkle of houses you can rent or own, and a huge mining development going on.  The plan was to spend the day there and take the afternoon ferry back but with nowhere to go and also rain, it seemed easier to do the round trip at a cost of $27 with 10% reduction for the senior card and enjoy the ride there and back to Gladstone, which took 2 and a half hours and was very pleasant.

The most interesting part was the Osprey nest near the green Buoy…but the Captain said the ospreys were not there, and one was there for the return trip. The Ferry went as close as possible but this was the best I could do…

Queensland Curtis
QGC and Bechtel have signed a contract for the Queensland Curtis LNG project, located on Curtis Island near Gladstone. The two-train LNG facility will be owned and operated by QGC.

Gladstone
The GLNG project, a joint venture between Santos, PETRONAS, TOTAL, and Kogas involves design and construction of a single-train LNG facility on Curtis Island, Gladstone, with a second train of the same capacity likely to be contracted soon. The project includes a liquefaction unit, power, water, and other utilities complete with required infrastructure and marine facilities.

Australia Pacific
Australia Pacific, a joint venture between ConocoPhillips and Origin Energy, is building an LNG plant on Curtis Island, Gladstone. Bechtel is both designing and constructing this facility.
