Step back 150 years
Boondooma Homestead was the centre of the original Boondooma Station, which was settled in 1846 by three young Scotsmen. It was originally bounded by the hill east of Proston, Brovinia Creek to the north, Darr Creek to the south, and the Dividing Range to the west – a total of nearly 1,000 square miles.
The homestead is one of the few remaining examples of an elegant wooden home built 1854-55. Visitors can walk through several buildings constructed in the 1850s, and spend time in the gardens, enjoying trees and vines also dating from the 1850s.
Boondooma Homestead is open for inspection every day between 9am and 4pm.
The Site entry fee (see right) is payable to the resident Caretaker or attending Staff member. This entitles you to a complimentary guided tour and access to the museum.
We regret that no site access is allowed without payment.
However,
Friends of Boondooma may enter the site free of charge (except for special events).
Guided Tours and Entry to Museum
Exploring the Homestead on a guided tour.
Tours are usually possible for impromptu travellers depending on the availability of Caretaker or Staff. However, we would suggest you make an appointment, especially if you are travelling some distance.
The Boondooma Homestead Complex has a very well appointed museum, showing local items and an historic photographic display of years gone by.
