Top Five things to do in the Moreton Bay Region

1. Explore D’Aguilar National Park

Take a journey through open eucalypt woodlands, scribbly gum forests and lush subtropical rainforests where more than 800 plant species are found. The cool mountain tops and forest flats of D’Aguilar National Park are ideal for ferns and mosses and provide a rich and varied habitat for wildlife. Great barred frogs and spiny crayfish inhabit the mountain streams, while yellow-bellied gliders and short-eared possums are active at night in the tall, open forest.

2. Play around in Pumicestone Passage

Stretching between the Caboolture coastline and Bribie Island, the Pumicestone Passage is a calm, warm water channel perfectly suited for the nature lover and adventurer. The passage is a delight for wildlife watching as a home to more than 350 species of birdlife (more than Kakadu) and common sightings of dugong, dolphins and turtles. Tour up the passage with Ferryman Cruises, go for a swim or hire kayaks and paddleboards from 24AT Hire and Adventure Tours.

3. Get lost in a vineyard

Indulge in award-winning wines and service at Ocean View Estate after wandering through the hinterland vineyards. Picnic among the vines or by the lake with a picnic hamper available at the winery, or get among the vineyards with the winemaker and walk through sampling the wines. Each wine is matched to the most delightful local produce. Keep an eye on the calendar to see what events are coming your way, and be prepared for some extra special entertainment.

4. Enjoy sky-high views

Whether it is tandem sky diving, joy flights in classic aircraft such as Tiger Moths or Mustangs, or traditional gliding, aerosports are bound to give you the adrenaline rush you require. And as you experience the thrill of soaring through the sky, you may also enjoy a bird’s-eye view of the stunning nature beneath. Redcliffe and Caboolture airfields both offer an assortment of aero activities to give you that thrill of a lifetime, with the bonus of taking in some spectacular views over mountains and bays -combining the best of both worlds to make your dreams a reality.

5. Bee Gees Way

Go back to where it all started for Barry, Robin and Maurice Gibb – the trio famously known as the Bee Gees. The now-famous group signed their first music contract on the kitchen table of their Scarborough home in 1958. In February 2013, Barry Gibb and Moreton Bay Regional Council unveiled Bee Gees Way – a statue and walkway honouring the world-famous pop group.
