Tiaro Queensland


Wonderful place for an overnight stay at the free camp behind the park between Tiaro Hotel and the Information Centre.

Tiaro /ˈtr/ is a small town on the Mary River in Queensland, Australia. The town is situated on the Bruce Highway 27 kilometres (17 mi) south of Maryborough and 227 kilometres (141 mi) north of the state capital, Brisbane. At the 2006 census, Tiaro had a population of 433.

Tiaro Discovery Trail

If the rush of the city is not your scene and you long for the chance to catch your breath and take stock, then Tiaro and its surrounds are a must. Be careful though. Many a local came to the bush for a visit and never left! Possibly 30,000 years ago the Aboriginal people later to be called the Kabi reached the area, made it their home and discovered the nut. The Mountain became an important cultural and sacred place and the Baphal tree part of their traditions. The Mountain and its surrounds became a meeting place as it was on a major aboriginal trading pathway. The nuts were a special item of trade, a staple food and used for gifts
