Right at the southern end of Russell island is a small sandy beach where at low tide, you can walk across to the left and find a spot suitable for swimming.
There is a Lions Park with a toilet, and drinking water, cold shower and barbecue and two tables.
Sandy Beach is where the locals drive to charge up car batteries from cars that don’t get driven enough as the island is small. I drive down, park the van and relax by the water for a while and drive back..the 14 kms helps charge up my battery.
Its a good fishing spot…standing by the old stump…
Small boats and catamarans are based here with the newly formed Sailing Club which meets Sunday mornings.
Its a beautiful place to relax in….and camping is permitted, but do bring insect spray as midges abound and bite.
I chatted with some boaties who were staying here overnight, and they had called the RSL Club for the courtesy bus to pick them up to go to the RSL Club. The Bowls Club also has a courtesy bus, so this is a way to see the island if you have arrived here in a boat or yacht.
