A popular place for pre-sunset drinks is Cylinder Beach. People with their dogs and cameras, and friends, sit and watch the open air theatre unfold its ever changing show, sitting on the rocks or at the wooden seats for viewing.
It was dull and though there were clouds in the sky, the sunset promised to be different. Below the rocks, a few adventurous surfers rode their boards along the long rip perfect for riding the wave, and the Lifeguards packed up for the day.
The colors changed to vibrant streaks of sunset that blazed across the sky defying the ever encroaching evening as it threatened to overpower the day and become night.
All good things come to an end, and the light lessened as the sky darkened and in a final defiant blaze of glory, the streaks of red closed its light at sunset. The last boat sailed in on a wave, and the sun went down leaving silhouettes saying farewell to another day, and we packed up the last of the drinks and were on our way.
