Christmas Lunch with Star

Star is an organisation with My Aged Care that provides services to the over 65’s. Members can use transport, go on outings and also join in a Lunch Club which goes to a different place each week. I went with Star to their Christmas Lunch .

Most people were into the Christmas Spirit wearing christmas hats and clothes. There was a lucky dip for gifts that everybody brought and donated to the pile, and a lot of bantering and friendly camaraderie

All these people live alone and enjoy the outing for the contact with friendly people, and friendships grow as they attend events. The issue is cost actually. Lunches are $15, the transport by volunteer drivers cost from $8 to $16 each trip, and a day outing is $50. Living on aged pensions does mean that one cannot afford to go as often as one would like to.
