I drove through Maryborough, over the bridge and on towards Childers when I saw the Sign saying Maryborough Showgrounds. I turned in there and drove to the end parking area where the Swap Meet was being held. It was just red dirt track and a few vehicles were there setting up their stalls for the Swap Meet to be held the next two days. Camping is available at the Showgrounds for the cost of $20. There are toilets and hot showers so it’s a good camping spot when on the road. I think they are open when there is something on and from what I saw, there are horse events most weekends so camping should be available.
I went around and checked the stalls for what they were selling, and chatted with the stall holders, before returning to set up my own van. This was mainly what it was called..a Swap Meet and I was way out of my league with the handful of photos I had brought along with a basket of fruit and a few oddments. There was a lt of old iron…parts of machinery, bits of cars, old farm and mechanical machinery and to my delight, some fossicking picks and hammers which I had put aside for me to buy. There was no food vans at this time, so I was forced to survive on cold water and avocados as my gas was not accessible as the lock key was missing. It was a very cold night as I huddled in my campervan with power, but nothing to cook or warm or heat. There was a sunset of sorts…
