I just made it to the ferry terminal to get the last ferry back home to the island. As soon as the ferry moved away from the terminal I realised the sunset had started. The light was fading but there was the sun about to set below the horizon.
Such a strange color. The sea was molten metal in the calm stillness. The only movement being the slow wash from the ferry as it headed to the islands. The sea was melted metal and so still it was held in a mold of the fading sunset
After Lamb Island, there was just the last stretch ten minutes back to Russell island. The night was falling but the last fades of sunset clung to the water in an obstinate refusal to let go and let the night descend
Now it was evening and dark and it was only 5.30 pm. The ferry had left the jetty at 4.45pm and the trip to Russell Island usually takes about an hour. The ferry has left Lamb Island and the next stop is home.
