We stopped at Montville, and had a cake at the café with a view over the mountains. History and architecture buffs will marvel at the fine buildings which run along and around Main Street, Montville and across the range. Lovers of nature will be at home among the parks & gardens, walking the rolling hills, exploring the lake, national parks, rainforest’s and waterfalls
Montville is a charming little town with beautiful shops and a quaint appeal. Charming shops with friendly traders edge the street with pretty parklands along the side and beautiful shady trees. We walked up the street to the Café and back through a garden. First settled in 1887, Montville is located close to the Kondalilla National Park – a great place to go hiking, walking, have a picnic or cool down in a waterfall. Hikers can access the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk from Montville – a trail that stretches 58 kilometres and offers panoramic views of the coast and hinterland.
Out of Montville just before Maleny is the famous lookout over the Glasshouse mountains. The first white settlers arrived in the area in 1887. The town was originally called Razorback, it was renamed following a community meeting. The name Montville was proposed by storekeeper Henry Smith (who bought a selection of land there in 1893) after a suggestion by his mother, as it reminded her of their early years in Montville, USA. Alternatively it is a coined word from mont meaning mountain and ville meaning town.[2] The name was officially changed to Montville on 30 November 1897
