Macleay Island Jetty is such an interesting place to just stay a while. You can view the sunrise and the sunset from the Boat Ramp and look across to Karragarra Island and the heads… From here you can see the heads of both the islands…

If you walk to the end, you can climb up the steep road which leads to the Hardware Store and a lovely coffee shop which also sells bread and fruit and vegetables. Just past Hookers, is the Community Park with a skateboard track and an exercise area.

Walk up the road, and you see the Community Hall where Centrelink lives and next door the Opportunity Shop which is very interesting with a small outdoor cafe and coffee area and two shopping areas and very friendly staff. I was thrilled to find two red velvet cushions with gold tracings for my van, and a friend bought a Large, beautiful crystal dish she is very proud of. From here you can walk down to the small shopping centre with the Blue Parrot Cafe, two estate agents, a post office, and across the street the Spar, for groceries and food, and the chemist and Medical Centre. Walk down to the left and there is Paradise Hotel where you can have a drink and a meal, and the Community Library and Hall where the Ukulele Club meets every Friday and Bernie’s Market every 3rd Saturday. From here walk down to the Jetty and you are on your way again with the option of walking onto the Vehicle barge for a slower scenic ride, or taking the passenger ferry to the mainland or visiting another island.
