Amity Point Stradbroke Island

Amity is small. Travel there is by Bus. The Local bus stops at the Amity turnoff and you move to a smaller bus that takes you anywhere you choose at Amity. We stopped at Shells Restaurant hoping for lunch, but as it was Tuesday it was closed, so we bought fish and chips from the General store and walked down to the pier and the end of the Caravan Park and back in time to catch the next bus. As it was sunny, I took off my warm sweater, and somehow dislodged my Ice watch, which I lost between there and the Islander.

Amity is a rural town and locality in the City of Redland, Queensland, Australia. In the 2016 census, the locality of Amity had a population of 387 people. It is known as Pulan Pulan by the traditional owners, the Quandamooka people. Amity Point is a small seaside village that enjoys the beautiful sunsets over the bay. Here the waters are calm and the area is a favourite place for spotting dolphins and pelicans

In 1824 John Oxley named the headland Amity Point after the brig Amity he sailed in when establishing the Moreton Bay penal colony. It had been given the name Cypress Point for which it was only known as for a brief period. The site was chosen as a pilot station by John Gray because of its location close to the South Passage into Moreton Bay. It was the first European settlement on Stradbroke Island. Amity has little infrastructure built by either the private or public sectors. Due to this, the town’s populace have to end up driving to either Dunwich for health and schooling facilities, or going by ferry or boat to the mainland town of Redlands

Accommodation here is mostly Bnb, which is expensive, or the Campgrounds where unpowered camping is $49 and powered $69 and an ensuite cabin is $209 a night. Makes you wonder why there are so few campers there. Its better to stay on the mainland and travel by ferry to the Islands or stay at the YHA Manta at Home Beach or one of the accommodation Resorts available at Lookout Point. The General Store sells pies, fish and chips, drinks and ice creams as well as normal grocery items and toiletries. Its a sleepy town with beautiful sunsets over the boat ramp and beach.

The beaches around Amity township have been eroded heavily by the rainbow channel, but Flinders Beach, 2–3 km (1¼–2 mi) to the east, and the Wanga Wallen Bank approximately 500 m (1,640 ft) to the south are in pristine condition, with a range of wildlife from U-Tube worms to Wobbegongs, a small brown shark, all present.
