Sand Drive Tour of Fraser Island

A 4WD tour of Fraser Island took us along very rough bumpy sandy roads to Eli Beach, The Cathedrals, Maheno wreck and Euring Reserve. We also went to Central Station which was the heart of the timber industry here, and McKenzie lake. It was a long day and we saw quite a lot in theContinue reading “Sand Drive Tour of Fraser Island”

Whale Watching from Fraser Island

Fraser Island offers a whale watching tour with Hervey Bay Whale Watch and this is what I take. We were lucky to see whales and get some great views of the whales from the boat. Commercial whale watching in Australia began the day Brian and Jill Perry discovered whales in the calm pristine waters ofContinue reading “Whale Watching from Fraser Island”

Fraser Island and Kingfisher Lodge

I travel to River Heads where Linda drives me to the ferry for Fraser Island. World Heritage-listed Fraser Island is a rare and beautiful holiday destination, at the start of the Great Barrier Reef, offering a refreshing change from the bustle of mainland Australia and the resort islands of Queensland’s north. The island’s untamed wilderness andContinue reading “Fraser Island and Kingfisher Lodge”

Trees on Fraser Island…Bush walk to the Summit

// I did not walk all the way…but almost to the top…The Kingfisher Bay Resort is edged with a dingo proof fence for security.  The island was originally a timber industry with timber exported all around the world. It is now a conservation island protected and cared for.

Sunset… Kingfisher Bay Fraser Island 15 January 2014..and Moonrise

// I walked to the Jetty and to the end of the Pier where I stayed for the sunset. On the east I saw the moon rise behind the clouds..so there was a sunset on one side of the bay and the moonrise on the other. Video of the sunset… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iurIA_ckv-0

Beach Walk and Low Tide Fraser Island

It was a very low tide today on Fraser Island Soldier Crabs are prolific on the island. As well as their droppings,  Skates create hollows from hiding in the sand flapping sucking up sand and soldier crabs that make up their diet. Tracks from the Segway make patterns in the sand as I walk backContinue reading “Beach Walk and Low Tide Fraser Island”
