The building was the original Wool Store from where Wool was stored, auctioned ,sold and delivered to all the companies needing wool for clothing, carpets, furniture and materials. Australia rode on the back of the sheep between the wars when almost everything possible was made from wool. The Military used wool for all its uniforms, and the wool trade boomed and blossomed until synthetics started creeping in and took over the wool causing the Wool to lose its importance.
The location right on the water also meant it was on the main transport route for Australian and International and these photos of a photo show the location of the Woolstore and shows why it assumed such prominence.
